Is The World Going Crazy?
2020...What a year!
It can make you wonder, "Is the whole world just going crazy?!"
The short answer is, "Nope."
The world isn't "going" crazy.
It's actually been crazy for awhile. Sorry.
Things have been crazy and darkness has been around since the beginning.
We only have to go four short chapters into the Bible to see this play out:
"Now Cain said to his brother Abel, 'Let's go out to the field.' While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him." Genesis 4:8
Go back one chapter and you'll read about "The Fall", where the first man and woman lived with God in the perfect world that he created for them and chose to disobey him anyway.
The world has been crazy. Darkness is not new.
Well, that's pretty depressing.
It is. Only knowing half the story is quite depressing. It can feel like the crazy, the darkness, is everywhere.
But make no mistake; there is another half of the story and there is absolutely light:
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." John 1:1-5
He is our life and our light.
And darkness has not overcome him.
Darkness and Light.
So simple but so powerfully profound.
The brilliance of The Word of God never ceases to amaze me.
If you are in a pitch black room with no windows, no light source of any kind, and a tiny candle is lit, what happens? That tiny light pierces the seemingly impenetrable darkness instantly.
Instantly. Darkness has no chance. It can't refuse. It can't do anything. Do you know why?
Because darkness isn't really anything. Darkness is not a thing. It is just the absence of a thing.
Darkness is only the absence of light.
So, where light goes, darkness disappears.
Where Jesus goes, crazy becomes calm.
Yes, the world is still crazy.
But Jesus is still King.
Darkness does exist.
But the light that overcomes is here.
The dark places that we see? They only need his light.
The question, then, that begs to be asked is what will we do with the darkness that we see? That we are seeing?
Will we shine his light in the shadows?
Will we bring him into our fears and the unknown?
Into situations and conversations?
Make no mistake, we cannot overcome the darkness of this world by ignoring or pretending. Arguments and witty retorts will not illuminate the obscurity we see.
Facts will not win, save one:
"In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."
Don't leave him out of the story and certainly don't leave him out of your life.
There is a light for us to follow. And darkness has not overcome it.
My Lord, we need your love and your light! Be the light in our lives today. You go with us as we shine your light into a dark world and we have unbelievable HOPE because no darkness can overcome your light! That darkness is simply the absence of your light. So we take your light into any and all darkness we see and have immediate victory because of you. Darkness will NOT overcome in our minds, our homes, or our families. In any and every situation your light will always shine through. In that we place our hope. In you we place our hope. And that hope will never disappoint. In Jesus mighty name, Amen!
